When you hear the word ENGINEERING, the first thought for a NON-engineering mind is usually engines-CARS to be specific. Overlooking this misconception, the fact that most engineers live to get their hands dirty on an actual engine stands valid. The greased overalls, the shiny tools, the sound of cutting, the shine of welding, the thrill of designing and the joy of success is like an engineer’s heaven.

Shell Eco-marathon provides such a platform for future engineers. Engineering students team up to design, build and race a vehicle all from scratch. However, this race, unlike other normal races is not about reaching the finish line first; it’s about lasting the longest in the least possible amount of fuel. Here go, its name, Eco-marathon.

Imaginations are let loose in the designing of the vehicles where students come up with all sorts of peculiar designs. Being fuel efficient, the vehicle has to be one seat and adhere to a certain dimensional limitations.

Such a task cannot be executed without careful planning and analysis. This is where the real engineering skills are applied. Computer Aided Designs of the vehicles are developed, elemental analysis of forces are done and simulations are performed to make sure the vehicle designs conform to what it is required to do- TO ACTUALLY DRIVE!

Once the designs are a go, the fabrication process begins. The teams spend hours working at the workshop, welding and fixing up the chassis, which is basically the skeleton of the car. Afterwards, the modification and fitting of the engine is done. Brake assembly, gear shift mechanism, steering mechanism and all other requirements for a vehicle to give a successful drive are assembled. Then we have the body of the vehicle which sets perfectly on top of the chassis covering all the critical parts and assemblies.

What else do you need in a car? Seat, seatbelts, lights, mirrors, windows, locks. This mini car has all!

What would a car be if it didn’t look good? Aesthetics are given high regard. The body is painted and decorated.

What next? First complete test run! The luckiest of the team is given a shot for the first drive of the vehicle. All hearts are racing; all the hard work all these months in building their very own vehicle comes down to this moment of truth.

That sweet sound of the engine rev, the graceful glide of the car as it takes its first move is the happiest time for those who put in all the effort- only an Engineer would understand the beauty of that moment!

Like previous years, Team PNEC-NUST has again taken up the challenge to go further in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2013 and make new records. The team consists of 14 enthusiastic engineers from NUST-PNEC, who have worked day in and day out to convert their dreams into a reality. We highly aim to bring laurels to our institute, country and sponsors. Support us, Support our ‘Go Green Initiative’.

Its US. YES, its WE who give chance to incapable people rule us, who don’t work for our constituencies. Stop thinking that army in POWER is good for us. We need our army, but at BORDERS.
We have got the chance to get rid of bad time, the tough time that our country is facing due to incompetent people. By giving developers a chance to see the products they imagine and concieve. With both competing against each other to win the battle for the market share, the user is the one having advantage of this competition. He has the perks of enjoying the applications of every kind and each better from last.

Pakistan’s game market is yet to bring forward some sparkling games. Though Pakistani developers have done great by working for outsourced projects but they didnt come up with the ideas of their own and that has many factos including the scarcity of funds.

One game that was recently released and earned good public response is Angry Awaam. Its a socio-political game created in the light of Pakistan’s current political scenario.

The storyline of the game explains it as:

“Once upon a time, there was a peaceful and progressive country known as Pakistan, where people used to live happily,

            Then…

Some evil politicians took over and hijacked the country.

            They manipulated everyone.

They spent leisure lives themselves and deprived ’Awaam’ of their basic rights.

They also filled their own pockets and bank accounts at expense of public funds.

The ’Awaam’ got angry and frustrated.

            Now,

The same evil politicians have come again with new promises but this time the ’Angry Awaam’ is not ready to listen to them.

            They want to take revenge.

Help ’Angry Awaam’ of Pakistan to get rid of evil politicians, one by one, all of them…”

The game provides user with the option of selecting one ‘evil politician’. That include heads of most famous political parties of Pakistan including Asif Ali Zardari, Pervaiz Musharraf, Tahir-ul-Qadri, Maulana Fazul-ur-Rehman, Nawaz Shareef, Asfand Yar Wali, Altaf Hussain, Munnawar Hassan, Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain and Imran Khan.

The game then has 4 stages. The first level features a scene of congregation showing a political leader on podium delivering a speech. The awaam (player is part of the awaam) turns against the politician and starts egging him. Once at least three out of five shots hit the politician, level is cleared. The second level features an indoor scene which shows politician sitting in a sofa reading a newspaper. Third level is again an outdoor scene of congregation at Mazar-e-Quaid while fourth level is an indoor dining room scene. The players can update their score and based on the score and chosen politician, a ranking is made with most hit politician standing on top.

The game is fun and perfectly adds up to this election fever we now a days have. Its simple and can be played with any android phone. It doesnt ask for high specs like RAM or processor speed.

The game currently is availble only on Google play store.

You can download the game from Google Play.

“Journey of thousand miles starts with a single step” said La Tzu. Actions are something that arises naturally from stillness. It is said that, great acts are made up of small deeds. The idea of independence is well grounded in the desire of humans to live their lives accordingly in their full spirit and capacities without any subjugation, oppression or curb on their basic fundamental rights and freedoms. For centuries, humans have fought wars and battles for the acquisition of this relatively utopian notion; an aspiration for freedom and independence. I thank the Muslims of subcontinent from the bottom of my heart that took single step and had travelled this long journey till the independence of Pakistan. During these eventful years we have witnessed wars, gruesome episode of partition, violent uprisings, general anarchy, brutal dictators, shaky democracies, enlightened moderation biased attitude of Britishers towards the Muslims and intolerance together. Our history is a narrative of an aberrant nation. Despite of all these facts, due to the strong willpower, determination, hard work and sacrifices, our great leaders reached their goal and gifted us this independent, beautiful country called Pakistan. They have played their part but now it’s high for us to think for its prosperity, dignity, virtue and pride of our country.

We have the cherished blessings of all sorts of people; Poets, philosophers, writers, singers, theologists, sportsmen, actors, musicians, judges, lawyers, doctors, soldiers and pedagogues. We have democracy no matter how much tainted, corrupt and maligned it is at present, it has the ability to progress and improve. We have a fledgling electronic media whose rationality and research base is crude and inept but it has the potential to develop and evolve into a mature and responsible media. Our people are getting aware no wonder in a random direction still they are realizing the importance and value of education. The influx and use of technology has enhanced in rural areas. The rampant use of solar power for energy generation as a substitute for traditional methods of power generation in the rural areas of Punjab has been thoughtlessly ignored by our mainstream media. Dissenters argue diversity is bad, I say a country blessed with beautiful diversity as Pakistan should be proud of itself. Have you ever come across with ‘chai wala Pathan bhai in Karachi to Karachi biryani center in Peshawar to Kashmiri chai in Lahore?’ If you haven’t then go gaze upon the horizons of this land enriched with a wonderful diversity of cultures, languages, colours, races and people representing a totality that is Pakistan. Finally without any contention we have a lot of weaknesses and follies. But we must also look on the brighter side. Because where there are troubles and hardships there are solutions and hope. Where there is darkness there is light.

“Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.”

Future demands us to be ready forever challenging and endless environment, and the best way to cope these oddities is to equip ourselves with the latest knowledge. Nowadays, we see a lot of discussion on Radio, TV talk shows, face book, blogs, conferences, workshops about the future of Pakistan. The participants or guests and topics may not be the same but what is common in all these debates is that everybody seems deeply concerned about the current sorry state of affairs in the country and wants to see a change- a better Pakistan. This awakening among the politically sensitized youth as to how to make the future of Pakistan bright must be seen as a welcome gesture.

If I cannot be the person, the change I want to see in my neighborhood, in my society, in my country and in my religion and as a global citizen, then nothing can happen.

“What you see in yourself is what you see in world.”

No ailment as it goes is cured until the right medicine is suggested. In the cure process to point out what causes the disease is more important than the disease itself. Similarly, the future of Pakistan can be made bright only if we could first point out the factors which are creating a hindrance on our way to a bright future and a cure for these factors. At the moment, Underperforming education system, a visionless mob of youth, energy crisis, poor agricultural sector and leadership crisis are the most important factors which are keeping the country away from the road that leads to a bright future. What is required here is to convert all the negatives into positives. This is only possible if we work on our self-first rather than the blame game, which we found easy. Recently I attended some workshops of famous media persons like Syed Talat Hussain, Fahad Hussain, Absar Alam and Fareeha Idrees at Saach media fest conducted by Saach TV. This helped me acknowledge the immense talent, potential and Enthusiasm our youth possess. I loved this quote of Charles M Schwab “A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited Enthusiasm”. We need to be passionate about whatever we are doing and excel in our fields respectively first and then join hands to pay back to our society and country by providing a better educated, well groomed and more cultured generation that upholds true spirit of morals and ethics.

In present day Pakistan, due to the population explosion, the young people with over 60% of share are a challenge and an opportunity at the same time. If we can tap this youth bulge and make them an asset by investing in their education, training and positive employment, otherwise soon we will find these young people crowded in street, desperate, if left unharnessed they will become a liability, and threatening to the peace of the country. Thus, there is dire need to convert this challenge into an opportunity by appropriately investing in them. Every endeavor must be made to convert this population into an asset than a liability. To reap dividends from it, the youth must be equipped with the weapon of education. It will certainly go a long way in achieving a bright future for Pakistan. If we can find a way to train them with modern skills and knowledge, up to part to the fully-fledged industrial countries, Pakistan’s future is very bright. Future Pakistan can entertain both big sizes of market and growing consumers. In welcoming address, representative UNESCO Islamabad Dr Kozue Kay Nagata stressed not to undermine the potential of young adults in Pakistan. “I can see the faces of youth, young women and men with their potential, and energy in this country. This indicates demographic trend of Pakistan. Pakistan has potential human resources, which is a prerequisite for sustainable and competitive nation’s economy”. We the youth on personal basis need to study and understand the problem our country is encountering and then think of the possible solution for the purpose. However, just understanding and thinking will not help we need to implement the ideas too. A major reason for us being in this state is that we do not execute our plans; they just remain till the pages. Also that we expect other to work and do not bother what we actually are doing. To sit and talk is easy but actually working for a purpose is what makes a difference. When a person puts a limit on what he will do, he puts a limit on what he can do.

Youth all over the world through history, has been a revolutionary force. The precious asset and opulence can revive a nation going through hard time. Youth of a nation can do wonders if availed, trained, educated and informed in an optimum fashion. Though tender an age, yet the intellect, physical strength and wisdom it possesses has no parallel. In such a chaotic state, there is still a huge quantum of hope along side; there is anticipation and prospects en route for accomplishment and triumph. “Hope is not a dream but a way to make dreams a reality.” Pakistan is the same nation who has youngsters like Dr. Aafia Siddique, Ali Moeen Nawazish, Arfa Karim Randhawa (late) and Malala Yousafzai and many other not even acknowledged yet, had shown the world the enormous talent and potential we the Pakistani’s possess. They all had proven to the world that whatever the circumstances maybe we will not stop struggling and will not let any stone down to make it a developed nation. Making the long story short, Pakistan has a very bright future. A prosperous, peaceful and economically stable Pakistan is not a distant dream any more. It exists. It is real. What is required is the complete implementation of the above given prescription for ailing organs of the country on emergency basis. Those who deny the fact, they need to change their lenses.

Long live my brethren. Long live my motherland.

Human being is known to show different behaviors and emotions in different situations during life. A happy moment grants joy and a dark moment can make a person go in the deep meditation of silence. Some people are so overwhelmed by such emotions usually the grieved ones that their mind starts to exhibit a different type of behavior. In which their realistic thinking is lost. They try to think more specifically. Again and again their mind will return to them the picture of their doing. They will think but only about that specific moment or the terms related to it that would have been the perfect solution or what I should have said or done.

The mind just blocks the thinking in these circumstances. A person can’t think or focus on any other situation, and this usually leads to suicidal reasons. This just happens because of lack of thinking and choice analysis. The mind thinks in circles, a forward thinking is lacked in these kind of situations. The weak human brains can’t reach a conclusion usually when facing this problem. This lack of decision making leads to suicidal reasons. Female brain lacks more of the decision making power, Hence more suicides are committed by them.

Losing is a part of life but to stand after losing is the one you will remember always!

The solution however is quite simple. We just need is to break through the cyst around the thinking of ours caused by the unwanted situation. Thinking beyond the situation may lead to a solution. What we have to do is to think to the limits of that problem. Of course it can harm you up to a limit, not a bit more than that. So think that what maximum harm could be done by this specific problem. At most what this unwanted situation can do? Mostly this problem is not even close to be a life taking thingy. And our mind just represents it so. “I am going to lose this “so what? “ I am going to lose that? “So what? Analyze the consequences to the last extent of limits and ask yourself does it matter that much? Do you really want to care for it? No! What’s done been done! And you can’t do anything about that. It was to happen and it happened. It’s your choice now to dominate or be dominated. Accept things open heartedly and they will hurt you no more.

Problems are a part of life they were, they are and they will be. Otherwise the word problem would have been unknown!
